A woman reading the Holy Bible

Religion is both individual and collective. God encourages us to use religion to become better humans ourselves and inspire others to follow the divine path. The aim is to use holy scriptures such as the Bible for your betterment and that of the world.

Just like everything else, divine guidance also begins at home. Before you start helping the world, get your family to become closer to God.

Here’s how you can do so:

Be open to discussion

The Bible is a way of life. Even though it encompasses all the aspects of your everyday life and has all the answers, the Bible is still largely open to discussion and contextualization. The Bible is as deep and extensive as it can get.

The more you study, the more is there for you to explore. When you set out on the massive adventure of understanding your God, you’d face hundreds of questions every day. To get your family to become closer to God, encourage them to talk about these dilemmas and discuss them at home.

Whether you’ve gathered around the fireplace for the Christmas dinner or are enjoying the evening tea with the family, please encourage a healthy discussion about religion. It makes your family more accepting of different religious perspectives and helps them understand the Bible better.

Teach good values

Any human who loves and serves humanity becomes automatically closer to God. God loves humans who show empathy, kindness, and compassion for other humans encourage your family to be charitable and help those who are in need.

Teach your children to never hurt anyone—physically, emotionally, or mentally.  Your family should not waste food, spend excessively, abuse power, mistreat others, or earn money through unlawful means.

Being close to God isn’t hard. God helps those who want to be closer to him and adopt good values. Just abstain from what’s wrong and help those who need your help. Above all, don’t hurt anyone.

Pray together

To get closer to God as a family, make it a habit to indulge in prayer activity together. Visit the church together, read the bible together, and attend sermons together. After the sermon sessions are over, feel free to encourage discussion and discourse regarding what you’ve heard. Cancel all commitments for your Sunday mornings and dedicate the day to church-related activities. Start following the traditions together. Put in the effort to make your Christmas and Easter memorable.

More importantly, recite the Bible together. Extract important abstracts and stories and read them aloud. Encourage your family to get inspired by the famous stories of the Bible and aspire to be like famous Christianity heroes.
